National Center on Early Childhood Health and Wellness (NCECHW) identified core areas of expertise and experience that may support CCHCs to provide effective services to early care and education program. The CCHC competencies communicate the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills the CCHC can bring to a child care program and identify the specific application of knowledge and skills needed to perform effectively as a CCHC. The goal of the competencies is to contribute to the development of a well-prepared CCHC workforce. CCHCs can use the competencies to assess their readiness to do the work and plan ongoing professional development.
